What's the story of your user name? My college roommate dubbed me "exbex" as a play on my real name (Rebecca).
When's the last time you sang in the shower or bath? No idea. Possibly never, actually. I tend to do all of my singing in the hallways of the high school where I teach. Possibly that is why I have the rep that I do.
What's the coolest place you've ever been? Well, I live in Wyoming, which does get to -40 fahrenheit occasionally. And I remember one of the days I was in Toronto being pretty cold once. If you mean cool in the slang sense, The Philippines was fascinating. I have an odd fondness for West Virginia though.
Favorite fannish pairing/moresome My first and truest love will always be Vecchio/Kowalski, but I am such a multi-shipper, I'd be hard-pressed to choose any in Sherlock (though, for whatever reason, John/Mycroft is starting to creep to the top).
Favorite comic or cartoon characters: Batman, but I can't claim to be a real fan.
Favorite fandoms: Due South, Wilby Wonderful, and Sherlock
Current fandoms: Mostly Sherlock these days.
Favorite nostalgic fandoms from years and years ago: I've only been doing this since '09.
Set Batman up on a date. Who do you pair him with? What do they do? Batman and Penny from The Big Bang Theory. I think she'd take him clubbing, which amuses me.
Same thing, but replace Batman with a character in your fandom. Lestrade and Penny, because that sexy and longsuffering bastard deserves some fun and sexy times.
Who's your favorite detective? Ray Vecchio. I have an intense and possibly irrational need to protect him.
Who's your favorite villain? Jim Moriarty. Evil is sexy, apparently.
Who's your favorite complicated anti-hero? I don't know if Mycroft Holmes truly counts, but we'll say he does.
Favorite mad scientist? If Turnbull in the kitchen counts...
Favorite comic relief? Harding Welsh's dryness will always reign supreme.
Have you ever climbed a mountain? yes
Have you ever scuba dived? no
Have you hiked in a rain forest or a desert? no
Have you ever been to Dragon Con, ComicsCon, or other huge fan cons? no, I have an aversion to spending money and leaving my house
Have you ever been to Bitchin Party/Pacificon or Muskrat Jamboree? see above
Have you been to Wiscon or Con.Txt? see above
What's the last book you read? The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
What's your seekrit awesome superpower? withering looks
What color bra/underwear/socks are you wearing? I'm actually naked right now, seriously. You're welcome.
Cuter: Baby Llama or Polar Bear? I dunno.
Lemon shortbread or dark chocolate? Why is the 'or' in there?
TV show you're most into right now. Sherlock
Last really good movie you saw. Oh geez, I got no attention span for movies. Um...probably Passchendale, or Good Hair, which is a docu with Chris Rock that I think everyone should see.
Last really good fic you read. Oh geez, I read so much good fic that I'd be hard pressed to pick one. I guess "Dehumanise Me" by deuxexmycroft, which was so good I wished for it to be canon.
Last time you met up with fangirls/boys in RL. Never. Again, I find leaving my house difficult these days.
Last fannish fest you played in (challenge, social, prompt meme, fandom appreciation, anything!). I think...DSSS

Oh, this is awesome! I think my favorite part is Lestrade because I LOVE HIM. He's my favorite part of BBC Sherlock. (I imprinted on ACD canon at an early age, so I'm still having trouble with Cumberbatch.) I also love that you love Batman. He's been on my mind a LOT lately, which is kind of a problem because I'm supposed to be working on an SGA fic. Doh!

I've just recently begun to pick my way through ACD, and enjoying it immensely. But Lestrade...*sigh* I don't know Batman all that well, but I've seen the Christopher Nolan films and read The Dark Night Returns, which is possibly one of the best pieces of literature freakin' ever.

What's the story of your user name? RL nickname.

When's the last time you sang in the shower or bath? last month? I don't think I have since the move.

What's the coolest place you've ever been? 3 week Alaska-Canada trip when I was 10.

Favorite fannish pairing/moresome: I couldn't even say! I love everybody.

Favorite comic or cartoon characters: Batfamily!

Favorite fandoms: there are too many to list. Especially if I get into the tiny ones.

Current fandoms: very few! I'm writing an SGA AU right now, so I have SGA on the brain. But also I have DC comics on the brain. And Hard Core Logo, for no particular reason. And Sherlock, if mainly for Lestrade and Mycroft. And Star Trek XI. And Shakespeare, which isn't so much a fandom, and yet I love all things Shakespeare-adjacent.

Favorite nostalgic fandoms from years and years ago: A friend was talking about the end of Smallville the other night, and it made me remember my early days in fandom, in like 2003, and what a great experience it was. I feel like I got lucky in my first fandom. Also, I'm glad I didn't watch the show after the Season 3 finale. I wrote the fix-it I wanted and got to close on good terms.

Set Batman up on a date. Who do you pair him with? What do they do? OMG I have too many possibilities. Let's say...Harvey Dent. They go to the Half-Moon Club, ditch their dates, and -- wait, I already wrote that story. Um. Actually, Harvey's probably in Arkham, so Bruce would be in the visitor's chair on the other side of the plexiglass. Bruce might read him Leaves of Grass...as long as the Joker wasn't in an adjacent cell eavesdropping.

Same thing, but replace Batman with a character in your fandom. IDEK. Okay, Promethean Age by Elizabeth Bear, which is a series where William Shakepeare and Christopher Marlowe are both spies for Her Majesty AND get to go to fairyland AND get to have a lot of sex both with each other and other people. So Christopher Marlowe goes on a date with...Annie Shakespeare! Who sees right through his charms, harrumphs at his velvet waistcoat, and interrogates him happily about all the things he and her husband get up to while they're away.

Who's your favorite detective? YES. Um. Batman. Fraser. Jim Gordon. Batgirl. Vecchio. Nightwing. Kowalski. Robin. Sherlock Holmes (qua Holmes). Lewis. Hathaway. Philip Marlowe. Sam Spade. Danny Williams. Gene Hunt, Sam Tyler. I've only seen a few seconds of Kalinda on The Good Wife, but I loved her. I just can't watch the show.

Who's your favorite villain? the Joker. Kolya. Book-Moriarty. the one Colm Feore played in that Vecchio ep with the toy cars & bombs (he was great!). I can't seem to remember villains as well?

Favorite mad scientist? Does Rodney McKay count?

Favorite comic relief? Hathaway being all hilariously dry. Batgirl!Cass and Batgirl!Steph hanging out, giggling, and destroying things.

Have you ever climbed a mountain? yup

Have you ever scuba dived? no

Have you hiked in a rain forest or a desert? yes to both

Have you ever been to Dragon Con, ComicsCon, or other huge fan cons? One of the regional comics cons.

Have you ever been to Bitchin Party/Pacificon or Muskrat Jamboree? MJ

Have you been to Wiscon or Con.Txt? Nope

What's the last book you read? an incredibly long history of Europe after WWI.

What's your seekrit awesome superpower? getting good parking. Alas, it only works part of the time.

What color bra/underwear/socks are you wearing? white/beige/white. (boring today.)

Cuter: Baby Llama or Polar Bear? YES!

Lemon shortbread or dark chocolate? They're both terrible for me, so YES!

omg, I'm long-winded. Doh!

TV show you're most into right now. Lewis? I'm up to S3 or 4, I think? I haven't watched anything in ages.

Last really good movie you saw. Ahahaha, um. THE last movie I saw was probably Trigger, and before that, maybe Star Trek XI. I'm really not good at visual media.

Last really good fic you read. Kass wrote some adorable Doctor Who a little while ago for fan_flashworks. (or is it flash_fanworks? I never remember which way it goes.) I have Seperis' "War Games" open in a tab to reread (STXI Kirk/Spock epic), but I'm kind of on a reading moratorium until I get some of this fic tackled. (Sorry! I'm so boring.)

Last time you met up with fangirls/boys in RL. On a large scale, MJ. Last year for one fannish friend. My best friend is in a different end of fandom and our paths kind of don't ever converge except in RL.

Last fannish fest you played in (challenge, social, prompt meme, fandom appreciation, anything!).
Aka's appreciation thing maybe? Before that Yuletide and co-modding DSSS.

What's the story of your user name? It was a line in a show I used to watch. I thought about changing it a three or four years ago because I've severed myself off from that fandom, but how_obscure just feels like me now so I haven't. In fact, I feel more like Howie than I do my real name.
When's the last time you sang in the shower or bath? I don't remember. I have the house to myself a lot and I love singing so I think about it fairly often, but I've got this paranoia that someone will come home while I'm in there singing and will hear me so I don't sing in the shower often.
What's the coolest place you've ever been? I think the best vacation I ever went on was a family ski trip in Colorado when I was in 4th grade. I would love to go skiing again.
Favorite fannish pairing/moresome DS: Fraser/Kowalski Firefly: River/Jayne Harry Potter: Remus/Tonks (although I'm not really active in that fandom)
Favorite comic or cartoon characters Calvin and Hobbes!
Favorite fandoms Firefly and Due South
Current fandoms same as above, although I will probably be into Doctor Who and maybe Sherlock once I finish the series. I've been staying away from fandom stuff for them to avoid spoilers.
Who's your favorite villain? I haven't watched it in forever so I don't remember his name, but I think the guy from the movie Se7en is really creepy.
Who's your favorite complicated anti-hero? Malcolm Reynolds
Favorite mad scientist? Dr. Horrible
Have you ever climbed a mountain? No, but I have hiked in the mountains.
Have you ever scuba dived? No.
Have you hiked in a rain forest or a desert? Nope.
Have you ever been to Dragon Con, ComicsCon, or other huge fan cons? No, but I think it would be neat to go to one sometime, just to get the experience.
Have you ever been to Bitchin Party/Pacificon or Muskrat Jamboree? No.
Have you been to Wiscon or Con.Txt? No.
What's the last book you read? The Hunger Games
What color bra/underwear/socks are you wearing? tan/black/none
Cuter: Baby Llama or Polar Bear? Um...that's tough! I'm going to go with a baby llama though.
Lemon shortbread or dark chocolate? Dark chocolate.
TV show you're most into right now. Out of ones that are currently on air, Flashpoint and Doctor Who
Last really good movie you saw. Um...I haven't watched many movies lately. Last week, I watched Silence of the Lambs and before that it was Taken. While both were good, I haven't seen anything that has really knocked my socks off recently.
Last really good fic you read. I am terrible at keeping track of what I've read, but I do know that I recently reread china_shops's The Underlying Problem.
Last time you met up with fangirls/boys in RL. Never. Well, my best friend is a fangirl, but we're in different fandoms.
Last fannish fest you played in (challenge, social, prompt meme, fandom appreciation, anything!). Eek, um, a Rayne fic exchange two or so years ago. Or I guess the rewatches count, but even then, it was quite awhile ago that I last particpated.

Oh, awesome! Also, the badguy in Seven (was never actually named) scared the CRAP out of me OMG. I don't know how I managed to watch movies like that in the theater back in the day, because it's way too much for me now. Although I still love Silence of the Lambs, even if I have to watch the basement scene with the sound off and through my fingers. *g*

Funny about TV that's actually on the air -- I forgot to mention Fringe, although I've only seen S1 and have to catch up on the rest, oops, -- there's just not much on now that grabs me and won't let go! There just isn't a "fandom that ate fandom" right now. It's great for Yuletide-sized fandoms, I guess, but it's really hard for community-building around a single show.

Oh, I really enjoyed some of Once Upon a Time, and then I was eh on an ep and forgot to go back. I hear it's finally found it's feet, though. Hmm. Once I get this fic done, I'll have SUCH a media reward to look forward to! *g*

Jayne/River! Yes! Of course I like Jayne with Simon or Mal, or just about any of the crew, mostly because he's so grouchy that the thought of him all goo-goo-eyed fills me with an unholy glee. Okay, not Wash, because Zoe would get super possessive and probably shoot Jayne in the head, which would be bad. But Jayne/River, absolutely. Is there fic for that? *makes grabby hands*

Hello! I'm not going to tackle all those questions, but I'll take the 'introduce myself' option. :)</p>

I'm new here, having suddenly woken up one morning after a year or so of reading fanfic on AO3 and found myself writing it (a thing I always thought I was unlikely ever to do).

I've been writing in Due South and Slings & Arrows; was previously reading in Sherlock (but the volume has overwhelmed me!), Miles Vorkosigan (my gateway to reading fic regularly) and Firefly.

I expect cons will never be my thing, because I'm the kind of introvert who doesn't care much for crowds of people I don't know well, though I'll happily talk your ear off in a structured environment and enjoy geeking about all sorts of things with like minded folks...

I've been getting to know (just a little!) various fic-writers through fics & comment-exchanges and some beta-swapping with people who were kind enough to engage with a near-total stranger. It's the first time I've met people purely online without at least a passing face-to-face contact first, and it's being interesting so far. Thanks to everyone who's been so welcoming to me as a newcomer!

Hi!! Yay & welcome!! \o/

I love that Vorkosigan was your gateway fandom! I love Miles so much, although I'm still in the relative beginning of reading canon. I'm sort of afraid to plow through it all and suddenly realize there isn't any more.

I think the best thing I've learned about being in fandom over the years is that the experience is exactly what you make it. I mean, the more I participate and organize things, the more fun I have. Sometimes that means emailing a near stranger and saying, "Hey, do you maybe wanna..." and seeing how things turn out.

And I'm with you on the miracle of beta readers. Sometimes it takes some work to find betas who fit, but it's entirely amazing when you do. Nothing in the world like a good beta!

This is my first toe-dipping into any sort of public fandom thing, so...hi!

What's the story of your user name? She's a character from an old small-press comic. I used her name as my first internet handle (back in 1990!) and lazily used it again when I joined LJ.

When's the last time you sang in the shower or bath? I don't think I ever have.

What's the coolest place you've ever been? The roof of the Duomo in Milan, Italy.

Favorite fannish pairing/moresome Fraser/RayK. I 'shipped them before I ever know what 'shipping (or fandom) was.

Favorite comic or cartoon characters Oh, gosh. I'm kind of a comic fangirl from way back, so this is a dangerous question for me. Well, my namesake's fRiNge started me reading comics, and my various comic loves have included John Constantine, The Invisibles, Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade, and, of course, Bone (who doesn't love Bone?).

Favorite fandoms I'm still so new to this, I don't know that I can answer that. But I'll always consider due South (because of my love for the show and its talented and prolific fan community) my fandom home base.

Current fandoms Like I mentioned, still toe-dipping. But I've joined a couple dS LJ communities. I can see myself getting way too involved in BBC Sherlock. If I'd known more about online fandom communities back when Farscape was on the air, I would've been all over that.

Favorite nostalgic fandoms from years and years ago I want a time machine, please, so I can say I was involved years and years ago. I don't expect a Doctor is going to pop in and help me out here, though.

Set Batman up on a date. Who do you pair him with? What do they do? Oh gosh. Poor Batman. I'd set him up on a date with a clone of himself. That way they could be all emo together.

Same thing, but replace Batman with a character in your fandom. Turnbull. And may I please have an adjoining table for the ten minutes that would last?

Who's your favorite detective? Hercule Poirot.

Who's your favorite villain? Hans Gruber.

Who's your favorite complicated anti-hero? Rorschach.

Favorite mad scientist? Er. Um. My real-life partner?

Favorite comic relief? Er. Um. My real-life friends?

Have you ever climbed a mountain? No.

Have you ever scuba dived? No.

Have you hiked in a rain forest or a desert? I...don't really go outside much.

Have you ever been to Dragon Con, ComicsCon, or other huge fan cons? Have you ever been to Bitchin Party/Pacificon or Muskrat Jamboree? Have you been to Wiscon or Con.Txt? No, no, and no. I hope to attend more than just my local cons in the next couple years. *crosses fingers*

What's the last book you read? Tessa Gratton's Blood Magic is the last one I remember reading and liking. I admit I don't leave much time for reading anymore.

What's your seekrit awesome superpower? Sarcasm. It's not very seekrit, though.

What color bra/underwear/socks are you wearing? Er. None/black/none. What. It's Saturday morning.

Because apparently I am TOO WORDY

Cuter: Baby Llama or Polar Bear? Baby Sloth.

Lemon shortbread or dark chocolate? Dark chocolate, definitely.

TV show you're most into right now. Probably BBC Sherlock. I'm entering a group costume in my local con's masquerade based on Sherlock and Watson, so I'm spending a lot of time watching the shows, video clips, and looking up images. Sherlock's coat is, frankly, eating my life right now.

Last really good movie you saw. Oh geez. I don't go to the movies very often. I think the last film I saw in a theater that I would've gone back to see again (but never made the time) was the second Sherlock Holmes movie. Yeah, I know. Did I mention I don't go outside very often?

Last really good fic you read. Let's just say I have Speranza's website in my Bookmarks Toolbar. Helens78's Give,Take stunned me into submission (heh) the first time I read it, a few months ago.

Last time you met up with fangirls/boys in RL. Never. Sadness.

Last fannish fest you played in (challenge, social, prompt meme, fandom appreciation, anything!). I've never done any of it. Virgin, here! And I'd like to echo the other newcomer thank-yous. The water is very inviting in these parts.

When's the last time you sang in the shower or bath?
It's probably been a couple of months.

What's the coolest place you've ever been?
I guess I'd have to say Heidelburg, Germany. The castle and Old Town are awesome. In the U.S. I like New Orleans.

Favorite fannish pairing/moresome
Ray/Ray, F/K/V and F/K

Favorite comic or cartoon characters
Hands down, The Penguins of Madagascar

Favorite fandoms
That's a tough one. due South, of course, but I also adore Hardcore Logo and Wilby Wonderful.

Current fandoms

Who's your favorite villain?
Gul Dukat from Deep Space Nine, before the writers made him crazy in the last two seasons.

Who's your favorite complicated anti-hero?
Joe Dick

Have you ever been to Dragon Con, ComicsCon, or other huge fan cons?
Back in 1986, I went to the 20th Anniversary Star Trek convention at the Disneyland Hotel. We stayed at a cheaper hotel down the street, but it was still an awesome convention.

I went to the first Muskrat Jamboree and hope to make it to the next one.

Have you been to Wiscon or Con.Txt?
I've been to Con.Txt.

What's the last book you read?
Bonds of Earth, a m/m romance novel by G.N. Chevalier, aka lamardeuse, who has also written some kick ass due South fic.

Did you like Bonds of Earth? It sounds interesting.

Yes, I did. It is interesting, and the characters are so real. I recommend it to anyone who likes a look into the past.

Aha! So this is where everybody's got to! Hmmm, lessee....

What's the story of your user name? Oh gosh, iirc, it started back in 2004, when I first discovered The Library of Moria archive and forum for LotR fandom, and I needed a handle to jump in and join the conversation. I think I just liked that sound that seemed to combine "brigand" with "libertine," and of course the idea that once upon a time the brigantine was high on a pirate captain's list of favorite ships to steal, and turn to his own nefarious purposes. AARRR! Heh.

When's the last time you sang in the shower or bath? People really do this? Don't they get water up their nose? Um, I don't think I ever have, for which my neighbors would be very grateful, if they only knew.

What's the coolest place you've ever been? I don't know about the coolest, but one of my favorites is Shanghai. You know how sometimes you walk into a strange city and you feel like it somehow recognizes you, and it's glad to see you? Shanghai was like that. Come to think of it, so was Oxford. Except Oxford was like, "Where have you been?" which was odd, but amusing. :)

Favorite fannish pairing/moresome Ooo, lessee... Aragorn/Boromir, Boromir/Legolas, Merry/Pippin; Fraser/Kowalski, Kowalski/Vecchio, Elaine/Frannie, Jayne Cobb/Mal, Simon, River (but not at the same time)... okay that's a lot of favorites, innit.

Favorite comic or cartoon characters *starts singing the Pinky and the Brain theme song* Also, Looney Tunes' Pussyfoot and Marc Anthony (the tiny kitty is obviously wearing the pants in that relationship), Penguins of Madagascar, The Tick, and for comics, the now-defunct Groo the Wanderer and Man-eating Cow. Moo.

Favorite fandoms Due South! LotR! Firefly! Also kinda loving on The Avengers, SGA (I've enjoyed the fandom/ficcage more than I actually dug the show. Weird, eh?)

Who's your favorite detective? Jim Rockford. Or maybe Spenser. Currently, kinda big on Jim Longworth. Will be soooo happy when "The Glades" comes back this summer! :)

Who's your favorite villain? Prince Humperdinck. He's delicious in the film, but even more evil in the book. wahahahaaa....

Who's your favorite complicated anti-hero? Mmm, Richard Sharpe. Or maybe Galahad Threepwood, or possibly Hellboy, or... oh! I know! Wolverine! What? He's complicated! And hot. ;)

Favorite mad scientist? The Brain.

Favorite comic relief? Pinky. Or possibly Wash.

What's the last book you read? Good Omens. It was most amusing. And kind of odd to be genuinely cheering for the demon, but that's Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman for you.

What's your seekrit awesome superpower? Probably the ability to maintain a sense of humor in not really all that funny situations.

What color bra/underwear/socks are you wearing? Ehhh, invisible/dark grey/red.

Cuter: Baby Llama or Polar Bear? Oh, that is not even fair! I suppose I'll go with baby llama, as I am reasonably certain that it will not eventually grow into something inclined to dismember and devour me.

Lemon shortbread or dark chocolate? Ehhhhh, not really fond of lemon shortbread. Shortbread, yes, absolutely, but not lemon. So chocolate it is.

TV show you're most into right now. Kingdom. And The Finder.

Last really good movie you saw. Super-8. Reminded me of The Goonies, only scarier, and... okay not at all like The Goonies, but it was good.

Last really good fic you read. Does it count if I'm still halfway through it? "Mr. July," an Avengers fic by jibrailis. So far it's adorable. :)

Last time you met up with fangirls/boys in RL. 2005, Oxford, England. The first six days were with 2 non-slashy LotR fangirls and one fanboy, and then the last day before I had to leave (/o\) was spent with 3 Very Slashy LotR fangirls. The whole week was a ridiculous lot of fun. Hell, even the plane trip back was a hoot.

Last fannish fest you played in (challenge, social, prompt meme, fandom appreciation, anything!). I believe that was the mini-exchange Merg ran back in October 2011. Gosh, it's been a while.

Choices are haaarrrd, you guys!

Ah! A long-range planner. I like that in a person.

I'm sorry I won't be around to see if you respond to this today (I absolutely must be productive at least one day of the weekend), but I wanted to give you a thumbs-up for that response.

Hey man, I am all about not being devoured. Er, well, not all about that, but it's high on the Not-To-Do list. ;)
